Devious

What worse than
a smutty spouse,
her turret slog

your trepidation?
Devious, you evolve
wilting to awesome

metamorphosis, and
this your touch
of interregnum.

  1. I love these (new?) spam poems. They are delicious puzzles and different with every reading. Would love to know how you go about writing them and what "meaning" you think readers may make or take from them-or whether they are more of an experiment with words/ ideas. Intrigued!

  2. Yes new*, poems are 'found' in a very literate collection of spam I received regularly some years ago, now sadly no more. I might start with an idea but I have no idea where 'meaning'/poem is going, which makes them fun/existential to write. Complex words are often new to me so I have to use a dictionary, and this too prompts where the poem goes. In addition to this fluidity/shifting, the reader can make of them what they will too: a much more creative and simple method of deconstruction.

[*] All of these are being written currently, but in an extension of their found meaning, many come from the same sources as previous poems, and yet they have gone completely different routes [I had forgotten I had already used some blocks of spam].

  3. Cheers. I wish we had more time at school to experiment with creative writing-I'd love to adapt your idea for the kids and get them to write more poetry. Alas, it's unlikely in the current climate!
